Fostering Sustainable Behaviour Workshops

The Environment Protection Authority is pleased to host Canadian author and environmental psychologist Dr Doug McKenzie-Mohr to present an introductory and advanced workshop in Darwin.  Dr McKenzie-Mohr is the founder of an approach to delivering environmental behavioural change programs used worldwide.

The cornerstone of environmental sustainability is behaviour change. Sustainability requires individuals and businesses to act (e.g., reduce CO2 emissions, increase water and energy efficiency, and prevent pollution). To date, most programs to achieve these changes have relied upon disseminating information. Research demonstrates, however, that simply providing information has little or no effect on what people or businesses do.

If your organisation or business is keen to foster or achieve sustainable living through behavioural change these workshops will have relevance to your work.

Workshops
5 February 2009 – Introductory Workshop (Limited places remain)
This one-day workshop is a comprehensive introduction to how community-based social marketing is being applied throughout the world to foster sustainable behaviour.

6 February 2009 – Advanced Workshop (Fully booked)
The one-day advanced workshop builds on knowledge gained from the introductory workshop or Dr McKenzie-Mohr’s book, Fostering Sustainable Behaviour. All participants must have read the book or attended the introductory workshop.  This training session will include extensive opportunity to discuss actual programs and will be limited to 80 participants to ensure ample opportunity for discussion.

Costs
Fees cover attendance and catering and are $230 (+GST) per workshop or $350 (+GST) for both workshops. People travelling from substantial distances to attend may be eligible for a 20% discount.

The Environment Protection Authority has sponsored a quarter of the places to be provided at no cost to students and other interested individuals who would not otherwise be able to attend.

Registration
Registrations for the introductory workshop are open until COB Wednesday or until places fill by phone only on 8924 4056.
